Yu Jae-Hak
Abstract
Resistance is defined as "all those mental processes, fantasies, memories, reactions, and mechanisms that serve to defend against the progress of the analytic process". Authors tried to explore the evolution of concept of ¡®resistance¡¯ from the time when Freud first used it in ¡®the Studies on Hysteria¡¯ to recent trends in ¡®analytic dyad¡¯. And authors provided the clinical importance of resistance and various kinds of classifications such as underlying mental structures, psychosexual developmental stage, ego-syntonicity, and clinical manifestations in psychoanalytic situation. Phenomenon ¡®resistance¡¯ is very important and inevitable in psychoanalysis, so it is worth understanding and comprehending its concept and clinical applications.
